About Lumena

Lumena is building a modern platform for post-acute care, starting with home health and hospice. The industry is facing compressing margins, difficulty hiring and retaining staff, increasing compliance scrutiny, and complex, shifting payer requirements — and the software agencies run on wasn't built for any of it. We're building one system for the work of care, with AI employees that handle the repetitive work while the team stays in control.

The role

You'll be one of the founding engineers. You'll own entire modules of the platform end to end — intake, scheduling, clinical documentation, revenue cycle — and build the AI employees that do the work inside them. You'll work directly with the founder, product, and our clinical lead, and ship to real organizations from early on.

What you'll do

• Own modules end to end, from data model to interface, and ship them to real customers.
• Build AI employees that do real work — drafting documentation, processing referrals, checking charts, preparing claims — with the right human review in the loop.
• Turn regulated, nuanced workflows into software that's simple to use. Getting the details exactly right matters here.
• Work directly with our design partners: watch how they work, ship, get feedback, and iterate.
• Help set the engineering culture and standards as the team grows.

What we're looking for

• A track record of building and shipping production software end to end.
• Comfort across the stack, and comfort owning ambiguous problems from “what should this be?” through shipped and working.
• Product sense — you care what it's like to use, not just that it works.
• Strong written communication.
• Comfort operating in an early-stage, in-person startup environment.

Nice to have

• Experience building with LLMs and agent systems in production.
• Experience with systems of record — EHRs, ERPs, billing systems — or other complex data models.
• Experience in healthcare or another regulated domain.
• Experience as a founder or on a founding team.

This role is full time and in person, five days a week, at our office at 5th and Bryant in San Francisco.
